For hundreds of years, to supplement their income, the people of Arran made their own alcohol in home-made stills. The resulting whisky, known as "Arran waters," was smuggled out of Lagg and sold on the Scottish mainland.
Lagg is a young Scottish distillery (founded in 2017) that is located on the southern Isle of Arran. In English, a lagg, defines a wetland area around a peat bog. As the name suggests, Lagg whiskies are peated.
No more than 4 ingredients are needed to make the whiskies: water, barley, yeast and peat smoke.
