Château d´Yquem 1985, Premier Cru Superieur, Sauternes - 6L
This imperial (6 liters) of Château d'Yquem is very rare.
The 1985 vintage had a very cold winter, a very wet spring, a persistent dry summer (only one day of rain between September 15 and Toussaint holidays); a meager harvest despite the fact that the grapes were picked on October 5! And then, at the beginning of December, the rot finally set in.
Harvest in December, a rarity, and a Yquem that looks like a miracle.
Château d'Yquem, Premier Cru Supérieur de Sauternes is and will remain, the most famous sweet wine in the world.
The exceptional microclimate and terroir have a lot to do with the quality of Yquem wines. Botrytis, a fungus that takes advantage of the humidity to develop, concentrates the sugars inside the berries. Called "noble rot", it allows the production of sweet wines. The work in the vineyard is very consequent, the development of the noble rot being a daily work.
The exemplary regularity of Château d'Yquem contributes to its status as a mythical wine!
