Les Deux Cols, Vin de France, la Degève 2021 - 0,75L
Degève is a 100% Grenache from a single plot at an altitude of 200 meters. This plot, called Les Fonts, faces southwest. The vines are grown organically, and certification is scheduled for the 2022 vintage.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. The wine is aged for 12 months in 500-liter demi-muids.
Degève presents aromas of red fruits. Elegant, fresh and vibrant attack with notes of red fruit, spices and undergrowth. Long, complex finish. A magical wine.
Domaine des Deux Cols was founded by 2 friends, Charles Derain and Simon Tyrrell, in 2012. Charles is a sommelier by profession, training at the prestigious Tain L'Hermitage school where he gained winemaking experience with Alain Graillot. Simon has worked for years in France and Ireland. He imported, distributed and became one of the leading specialists in Rhône Valley wines. In 2009, he changed direction and decided to study viticulture and oenology at Plumpton College, the University of Brighton in England. He works for Château Terre Forte and the prestigious Domaine Stéphane Ogier.
Gerard Maguire joined them in 2017. An Irish wine enthusiast with a somewhat atypical background, first working in the police then as a lawyer ending up as one of Ireland's top wine merchants. He also has wine interests in Spain and France.
Initially, friends made wine. In 2016, they bought 3 hectares of vines in the hills above St Nazaire. The vineyard will expand by 1.3 hectares in 2019 and 4 hectares in 2020.
The highest altitude of the vines is 220 meters. Most of them are surrounded by dense woods and garrigues. The youngest vines were planted in 2003 and the oldest in 1947. The vines are grown organically.
The wines are of rare purity.
